Absolutely! Although these stores tailor predominantly to a much younger consumer, women over 40 can certainly find trendy pieces they can incorporate into their wardrobe.
Here’s what and what not to look out for when shopping in these stores:
Look for higher quality pieces. I’m referring to fabric, cut, and fit. What makes higher brands more desirable is the way the garment is constructed. That has a lot to do with the quality of the fabric, these two guarantee a better fit.

Pick up a faux leather moto jacket or vest. They can be styled with tee shirts, long sleeve shirts and paired with jeans, joggers, or trousers.
Stock up on spaghetti strap, short, or long sleeve camisoles. They are inexpensive are great for layering or wearing alone. They look great under leather jackets, jean jackets, and blazers.
Pick up a trendy coat. A modern, slick coat can transform a plain outfit into a runway look while keeping you warm. Both Forever 21 and H& M carry good quality coats at a great price.
Don’t forget to stop by the accessories department. Chokers, bangles, and layered necklaces flatter anyone at any age. Make sure that the piece is subtle and don’t wear too many pieces at one time.
Avoid makeup. I’ve purchased several lipsticks that have run outside fines lines and eyeshadows that have creased within minutes of application. I have not tried concealers or foundations because I feel you should purchase formulas that are specifically for mature skin to achieve a natural look.
Don’t purchase garments that you’re daughter and friends are wearing. More than likely, they are too young for you. Cropped tops, super low-cut jeans, overly ribbed jeans, miniskirts and short-shorts don’t flatter the mature women no matter how they’re styled.
