Two years ago, on Thanksgiving Day, my son Nathan was involved in a serious car accident. Due to the severity of his injuries, he lost his entire junior year of high school.
To graduate with his friends, Nathan had to attend summer school before his senior year. He also took extra credit hours during his senior year, along with additional online classes. On top of all that, he completed 20 volunteer hours at an organization of his choice, as required for graduation.
There were moments when I feared he wouldn’t make it. I spent many nights encouraging him when he felt overwhelmed and exhausted.
On May 20th, 2017, Nathan graduated high school, walking alongside his friends just as he had hoped. I could not be prouder. The night before the ceremony, we hosted a celebration with friends and family to honor his accomplishment. He looked so happy and relieved.
What’s next for Nathan? This fall, he plans to attend massage therapy school, as he’s still deciding on his college major. I know he’s destined for great things because of his determination and perseverance.
As for me, I’ll continue to support him and cherish every moment as I watch him grow into an amazing young man.
