COVID-19 Pandemic | 2020
This has truly been a year like no other. The coronavirus pandemic began around March 2020, and now, in December as I write this, its deadly impact continues to grow. Restrictions have been enforced to reduce the spread, and although life has been turned upside down, there is finally a glimmer of hope: a vaccine has been developed and is beginning early rollout.
The world spent months shifting in and out of lockdown, trying to adjust to a “new normal.” Many people lost loved ones, and those who contracted the virus often became severely ill. On top of that, we experienced one of the most tense election years in history—filled with division, controversy, protests, and fear. For a brief moment, politics distracted us from the pandemic, but reality always returned.
My hope is that when we look back on this time, we remember not only the loss and financial hardship, but also the lessons: gratitude, empathy, love, and deeper faith.
Despite everything, we chose to take a short vacation in October. By then, many businesses were operating at limited capacity. Our decision was judged by some—and I understand why. But we felt we needed a break.
We traveled to Cancun, Mexico, staying at an all-inclusive resort we confirmed was strictly following COVID-19 safety protocols. We were relieved to see how carefully they upheld restrictions. It allowed us to unwind, enjoy warm weather, and spend time with relatives and friends who joined us.
When we returned home, we isolated as recommended. With God’s grace—and a lot of caution—we remained COVID-free. I’m not encouraging anyone to travel during this time; we simply accepted the risks knowing we could be exposed anywhere, even at our local grocery store. Would we do it again? Honestly, I don’t know.
I hope you’re staying safe and making decisions that feel right for you and your family. This will pass. We will get through it. Continue to follow guidelines, stay cautious, and stay grateful.
