Traveling during a Pandemic

COVID-19 Pandemic 2020

This has been a year like no other for sure. The Coronavirus pandemic started roughly around March of 2020 and in December when I’m writing this post, its deadly path continues to grow. Many restrictions have been in place to avoid the continuing spread of the virus and as of this month, a vaccine has been developed and is in the beginning stages of implementation so there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel.

The entire world went lockdown on and off for months and trying to adjust to the “new normal” has been trying. Some have lost loved ones and, the ones who’ve contracted the disease became very ill.

The elections took place this year as well and it was a circus act, to say the least. Opposing views, controversy, riots, and protests steered our attention from the pandemic for a moment, but not for long. My only hope is that when we all look back, we’ll remember the lives lost, the financial struggles that many endured, and hopefully, a greater sense of gratefulness, love, and faith.

Despite all this, we decided to go on vacation in October. By this time most businesses opened at minimum capacity. It was a decision that was frowned upon by many people we know, and I respect that. But at the time, we needed to get away.

We flew to Cancun, MX to an all-inclusive hotel that we made sure beforehand was taking the mandatory pandemic precautions. We were very please at how they followed all the mandatory restrictions while there. We were able to relax, enjoy warm weather, and spend time with relatives and friends who met us there.

Upon our return, we isolated ourselves accordingly and with the grace of God and many precautions, we came home COVID free. I’m not encouraging taking a vacation during this time, I guess in our minds we could get it anywhere, even from our local supermarket. Would we do it again? I’m not sure.

I hope you are all keeping safe and making decisions that are right for you during this time. We will get through this, it shall pass. Just continue to follow state mandates, stay safe, and grateful!
