When I first thought about writing this post, my plan was to share tips I’ve tried to tolerate winter weather, a “how-to” on what works and what doesn’t. Each time I woke to frigid temperatures, snow, and icy roads, I tried changing my mindset: cultivating gratitude for a beautiful day, venturing outdoors, and experimenting with winter activities like snowshoeing, tubing, sledding, snowmobiling, skiing, and more. I even bought a snowboard which now sits in my garage, collecting dust. Why? Simply because I don’t like winter. Anything below 10 degrees feels completely unfit for humans.
So instead of a “how-to,” I’ll admit it: I’ve got nothing. I’ve been trying to condition myself to enjoy something I don’t, when all I really need to do is accept it. I may never like winter—and in Colorado, I may have to endure it indefinitely but my best approach is to stop letting it dictate my mood.
I’ve decided to accept winter for what it is, endure it as best I can, and carry on with my day. Sometimes acceptance is the most practical and peaceful solution.
