Best hair products for curly hair

I’ve tried many products throughout the years that claim to reduce frizz, maintain curl, and keep your hair from looking dull and unhealthy. It’s been the same amount of years in which I’ve not seen results from any until recently. A couple of weeks ago I finally got a hair cut that is truly for my hair type. I will encourage all of you to look for a salon that specializes on the right cut for your curls. I got my haircut at More Than Curly in Aurora, CO, www.morethancurly.com. They introduced me to three of the products I will share with you on this post. Frizz never goes away; let’s start with that. The only things you can do is tame it and live with it. Embracing your curls is also a good idea.

Personally, I receive more compliments when I wear my hair curly than when I wear it straight. I think there are many women out there who wish that they had what we have, so I would appreciate it. Here are several products I love, why I love them, and how use them. And BTW, you don’t use Cantu, DevaCurl or Quidad at the same time. You just use one with each wash for a desired look. Most of these products are a bit pricey, and I don’t have a less expensive substitute for them; however, I would not recommend them unless I knew they work. Plus, a little goes a long way.

1. Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner: Is lightweight, with a creamy, non-greasy texture. Leaves hair soft to the touch without a heavy feeling of product. Average price is between $5.89-8.49.

2. Cantu Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream: This cream is amazing. Its formula is lightweight, non-greasy, and when applied generously to the hair and dried with a diffuser, you’ll get tight, wavy curls with little frizz, and amazing volume. This may be a product for a night on the town when you want big hair. Average price is between $5.99-6.99.

3. DevaCurl Super Cream: My second favorite. Lightweight, feels silky to the touch, and it has coconut oil as its main ingredient. Applied like I do the Cantu Moisturizing cream, it gives your hair high shine, very little frizz and great volume. Pricy at $28.00.

4. Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel: This is my third favorite for one reason; it’s a gel. I have thin hair so gel tends to weigh it down too much. I prefer a product that gives me more volume; however, for work days, when I want less volume, this product does the trick. Again, apply generously, diffuse, and you’re left with beautiful shiny and natural looking curls. You can also mix a dime size with Cantu Crea and DevaCurl Super Cream for extra hold. Another pricy product at $26.00.

5. Living Proof Amp2 Instant Texture Volumizer: I use this product more as a root lifter after I’m done drying and styling my hair. Spread a small amount on the palms of your hands and apply to your roots. For better results, do it with your head down. Average price is $25.00.

6. GK Hair Taming System with Juvexin or TRESemme Keratin Smooth: These a more like hair glosses that I like to apply as the very last step to bump up the shine in areas that remained looking a bit dull, such the ends. It does a good job concealing split ends, and tame flyaway.

7. Kenra Volume Spray: This hairspray is worth every penny. It’s lightweight, won’t magnify frizz and even when applied generously, it allows you to manipulate your hair without a stiff, sticky feeling. It offers a medium hold that looks natural. A bit pricy for a hairspray, its average cost is $17.00.

To wrap up, my daily hair routine includes shampoo, conditioner, pat dry hair, apply leave-in-conditioner, TRESemme Keratin Smooth, then one of the curl-enhancing creams from my three favorites above, dry hair with a diffuser, apply root lifter to the roots and a shine serum (GK Hair Taming System). Finish with hair spray and you’re hair will look healthy, less frizzy, with a natural hold and killer curls. Using so many products at a time may seem like a lot, but you’ll love the results.
