The Endless Search: Finding Joy in the Present

In search of the perfect house, the perfect dress, the perfect shoes… or the perfect mate, when does it end? Are we always searching because we don’t truly know what makes us happy? Or are we so dissatisfied or disappointed with what we have that we convince ourselves there must be something better out there?

Why can’t we just be content and stop chasing things that, in the end, may not exist or may not even be good for us? Don’t get me wrong, wanting better things isn’t inherently bad but a constant feeling of discontent is unhealthy.

Perhaps it would help if we started basing our happiness on specific moments rather than making it the foundation of our entire existence. Happiness is often overrated; if pursued or projected in the wrong way, it can lead to heartache and endless disappointment.

There are happy moments all around us. If we take the time to recognize and value them, they can help us live a more fulfilled life. Instead of constantly longing for what’s “better,” dissect your life into pieces and find joy in each one. You may be surprised at how much happiness you’ve been missing.
