PCH RV Trip: Pismo Beach

Our next stop along the California Pacific Coast Highway was beautiful Pismo Beach. After a long day on the road, arriving at our campground felt like a breath of fresh air. We settled into the camper and immediately headed over to the campground pub for much-needed cocktails. The outdoor patio overlooked the coast, and the cool ocean breeze instantly melted away the stress of the drive.

That evening, we kept things simple and cozy by cooking dinner at the camper. Pasta, red wine, and the peacefulness of the night sky created one of those unforgettable travel moments that remind you how special the simple things can be.

Over the next three days, we explored some of the best parts of Pismo Beach and the surrounding coastal towns. One of our favorite adventures was hiking the Vamonos Trail at the Pismo Preserve. The trail itself was relaxing and scenic, but the real reward was reaching the hilltop where breathtaking ocean views stretched endlessly along the coastline. Standing there, surrounded by nature and the Pacific Ocean, felt both calming and energizing.

We also visited Dinosaur Caves Park, where the dramatic cliffs, crashing waves, and panoramic ocean views made for the perfect afternoon stroll. The waves rolling against the rocky shoreline captured the relaxed coastal spirit of the area.

Another memorable stop was Los Osos Baywood Park, a peaceful hidden gem with charming coastal views and a quiet atmosphere that allowed us to slow down and simply enjoy the beauty of the Central Coast.

One of the highlights of our trip was spending half a day exploring Morro Bay. Walking through the local shops and admiring the rustic seashore architecture gave the town a cozy and welcoming feel. Of course, seeing the iconic Morro Rock in person was incredible. Towering above the shoreline, it truly is the heart of the bay.

While in Morro Bay, we had one of the best sandwiches of the trip at High Street Market & Deli, a local favorite that absolutely lived up to its reputation. Before heading back, we made a quick coffee stop at Nautical Bean, which was the perfect little pick-me-up for the drive. Before heading back to the campsite, we stopped at Branch Street Deli & Pizzeria for pizza, wine, and live music, which turned out to be such a fun and lively way to spend the evening.

We also spent time walking along the Pismo Beach Wharf and Pier. Even though the weather was chilly, it was enjoyable watching surfers ride the waves while fishermen patiently cast their lines into the ocean. There was something peaceful about the laid-back beach atmosphere.

That same day, we wandered through the Cypress Landing shops before ending the evening with wine tasting at Wolff Vineyards. The vineyard offered a perfect mix of rustic charm and beautiful scenery, making it an ideal stop for winding down after a day of exploring.

For dinner that evening, we ate at Ada’s, where the seafood was not only delicious but surprisingly affordable.  Back at the campsite, we shared a bottle of wine we had purchased earlier at the vineyard. Sitting together under the night sky with the sound of the ocean nearby was the perfect ending to our stay in Pismo Beach.

This stop along our RV journey reminded us that travel is not always about rushing from one destination to another. Sometimes it is about slowing down, enjoying good food and wine, appreciating nature, and simply being present in the moment.
