Some trips are years in the making, and when they finally happen, they’re everything you hoped they would be. Our first girls’ trip to Breckenridge, Colorado, was exactly that, a weekend filled with laughter, breathtaking mountain views, delicious food, meaningful conversations, and the kind of memories that remind you how important it is to make time for the people who matter most.
Our adventure began with check-in at the Cross Chalet, a beautiful mountain home that immediately felt like the perfect retreat. It was spacious, comfortable, and surrounded by incredible mountain views that made us stop and simply take it all in. One of our favorite features was its location, it was just a short walk from Main Street, making it easy to explore the heart of Breckenridge.
After unpacking and settling in, it was finally time to celebrate.
Our first stop was happy hour at Kenosha. Sitting on the back patio with cocktails in hand, we toasted to a trip we’d been talking about for years. After the long drive from Denver, it was exactly what we needed, a chance to relax, laugh, and appreciate that we had finally made this girls’ getaway happen.
We spent some time strolling through the charming shops along Main Street before heading to dinner at Mi Casa. The food was wonderful, but the real showstopper was the peaceful view overlooking the pond. It was the perfect backdrop for our first evening together.
Back at the chalet, we poured ourselves a bottle of wine and settled onto the patio to watch the sunset. Sometimes the best moments aren’t planned, they’re simply shared.
The next morning began with breakfast before making our way to the gondola for a hike along the Peaks Trail. Every turn seemed more beautiful than the last. Crystal-clear streams, towering pine trees, endless blue skies, and fresh mountain air reminded us why Colorado is such a special place.
After our hike, we returned to the chalet for lunch and a little time to recharge before heading back into town. Instead of walking, we hopped on the free shuttle to visit Isak Heartstone, the famous giant wooden troll hidden in the forest. Seeing the massive sculpture tucked among the trees felt almost magical. Created entirely from reclaimed wood, Isak seemed to blend perfectly into the natural surroundings, reminding us of the importance of protecting the beautiful places we love to explore. It was one of those unique experiences that made our trip even more memorable.
After visiting Isak, we spent the afternoon shopping along Main Street, picking up a few treats and souvenirs before making our way to dinner at Ollie’s. Once again, we were treated to spectacular views overlooking the water while enjoying another wonderful meal together.
The highlight of the evening, however, came just before dinner. We found ourselves sitting in front of a talented performer named Eugene, who had transformed a truck into a mobile stage complete with a backstage studio where he created his music. His creativity, energy, and talent drew a crowd and made for one of those unexpected moments that become lasting memories.
Our final evening was exactly what a girls’ trip should be.
We returned to the chalet with delicious wine and chocolates we’d picked up while shopping. We talked, laughed, and even completed a puzzle together. There was no rush, no schedule to keep, just good friends enjoying each other’s company in a cozy mountain home.
Those quiet moments often become the ones you treasure the most.
Until Next Time
The next day, we met our families for lunch before heading home. While we’d been enjoying our relaxing girls’ weekend, our husbands and kids had been off on their own nearby backpacking adventure, making it the perfect weekend for everyone.
As I drove home, I felt incredibly grateful, not only for the beauty of Breckenridge, but for the gift of friendship. Time has a way of pulling us in different directions with work, family, and responsibilities, making weekends like this even more meaningful. Nature has an incredible ability to slow us down, helping us breathe a little deeper and appreciate life’s simple joys. But those moments become even more special when they’re shared with people who know your heart.
This trip was more than just a weekend away. It was the beginning of a new tradition, proof that sometimes the best adventures are the ones you’ve been dreaming about for years.
Here’s to more girls’ trips, more mountain sunsets, more laughter, more puzzles (possibly), and more memories waiting to be made.
